I also would like something like this but not as a split view. More like now it works with Google Calendar where you click on the date at the top and a month widget is shown where you have an overview of the days you have events and you can navigate it and choose any day. Doing so switches the day view to that date without leaving that view. Now it's a 4 step process and not optimal to say the least. This is the thing I miss the most from Google Calendar.
